Haiku II

My old office would play “Haiku tag” via email. It became a regular event when things slowed down. The challenge would hit your inbox with a subject picked at random. Some of the best three-liner’s came from those not chosen, but had to chime in anyway. There were no rules.

I no longer work there, but I keep in touch with some of my former co-workers by the occasional “haiku spam”. It’s my way of saying hello.

Dreams of peace
Along pebbled riverside
With wonder
~
inspiration fades
hidden colors bide the storm
along the river
~
petals bursting red
standing tall for all who see
thorns guard thy beauty
~
red shirted boy sits
aside boulders in the sun.
wiping away tears
~
last days of summer
drips from the leaves make it known
should have worn some socks
~
Boo’s drift through the night
Painted faces. Trick or treat.
Darkness frightens me.
~
In synthetic caves
We hide from mother nature
With great contentment
~
Still cold under foot
Dawn breaks through cracked window shade
But leave the socks off
~
White covers the ground
On glass his scribbles appear
The playground will wait
~
Tall grass hides the boy.
Year numbered ten long gone by.
Father, he awaits.
~
Morning breezes chill
Sneaking through open window
Duck under cover
~
Early morn – rain falls
Afternoon – more rain falling
Still the birds sing out
~
Blue. The sky above
Empty waiting for stars
the sun takes a bow
~
red-shirted boy sits.
aside boulders in the sun,
he wipes away tears.
~
Lonely file sitting
Edits come, make me perfect
Do I still exist?

In the western sky
hidden winks from waxing moon
Venus shines her light
~
Thriving words – So near.
Gently placed with expert hand.
At home she rests mute.
~
my pen without ink
sand between my shriveled toes
the sun goes to bed
~
never satisfied
not wanting to get away
rain streaks my window
~
winter late to come
the cold wakes
from restless slumber
~
light in cloudless sky
cast in darkness from above
shadows never sleep
~
Shed your wisdom seeds
Along the footpath you share
Youth eager to learn
~
My eyes wide open
An illusion in my mind
Where perfection lives
~
Don’t be so blue
Everything comes to an end. . .
I will catch you
~
Thoughts I would not think
Warm, cozy. . . forever real
Or is it a dream?
~
Dreams keep me in bed.
Reality. Do not want.
Just nine more minutes.
~
He sits there. Frozen.
In the park once known so well.
Age has crippled him.
~
Lusting after Impossible things
Lack of effort not the cause
Passers by cuddle their raincoats
~
Intrinsic beauty
Hidden within those blue eyes
I’m lost behind them
~
Never soon enough
The pillow awaits my sleep
To dream, perchance? Aye!
