Happy 2013!
It’s been a while. I’ve been thinking of yet another reformat of the site. Over the last few months I’ve made the plunge into Facebook. I’ve become a twitter user. And I have renewed my interest in tumblr.
Facebook is kind of fun. I see folks on there that I have not thought about in 20+ years. It makes it easy to say “Hello!”, but it’s not for meaningful conversations. I enjoy seeing what my friends are facebooking about.
I twitter more to see what’s going in the 140 character world. I first found a need for twitter when Brad Keselowski (a Nascar driver) tweeted from a red flag in a race. Thing is, he put his phone in his fire suite, and during a lengthy race stoppage started tweeting. He gained like 100 thousand followers because of his tweets during the race. He was also fined $25,000 after Nascar made a “no smart phone” rule.
Tumblr is by far my favorite format and place for useless fun. It’s a place where anyone can have a site, post whatever they wish, and follow and be followed. If you are using it for your own work, that work has the potential to reach thousands of others with reblogs. The one thing that’s a bit freaky is that the reblogs tend to muddy the source, and although your work might be seen, it might never really be associated with you. It somehow morphs into the collective.
The one thing I enjoy most about any of these is trying to make the generic, just a little less generic. “I know you hate me, but can you just hate me a little less?” I am anything but a professional web designer, but the ability to customize and tweak, and reformat, and add things? That’s what I like. And why I want to maybe reformat this site… new and shiny for the purpose of new and shiny.
